Fran
Korten is executive director of the Positive Futures Network, publisher of YES!
magazine. The mission of YES! is to encourage people from all walks of life to
actively engage in creating a more just, sustainable, and compassionate future.
In our magazine, website, books, and educational outreach programs, we take on
the greatest challenges of our time and frame the possibilities for getting to
a positive future.
Fran’s
career has included extended stays in Central America, Africa, and South East
Asia. In each place -- and in the United States -- Fran has found ways to pursue
her passion for creating communities in which people participate as equals and
work together to promote a common long-term prosperity that respects and enhances
the richness of the natural world.
For
20 years Fran served as a grantmaker in the Ford Foundation’s offices in Manila,
Jakarta, and New York. She has a Ph.D. in Social Psychology from Stanford University,
has taught at the national university of Ethiopia and at Harvard University. She
currently lives with her husband, David Korten, on Bainbridge Island, Washington,
in biking distance of the YES! offices. She and David have two children and two
grandchildren.
