American
Friends Service Committee Nobel Peace Prize Nominees
In 1947 the Nobel Peace Prize was awarded to the American Friends
Service Committee (AFSC) and British Friends Service Council
on behalf of Quakers all around the world, in recognition of
300 years of Quaker efforts to promote peace. Nominations for
the Nobel Peace Prize can be made by previous Nobel Peace Prize
winners. Each year the AFSC’s Nobel Peace Prize Nominating Committee
takes this honor seriously, and selects an individual or organization
they believe best manifests "the divine spark in action
in the human family." Many of AFSC's nominees have later
gone on to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Some of AFSC's nominees
are included here. For a complete list, and more about AFSC's
vision for peace: www.afsc.org/about/nobel/past-nominations.htm.
